The Great Newcastle United Right Winger search of 2024 is still yet to bear fruit with the new season just over a week away.
It looks like Newcastle will land the central-defender they have craved all summer, and what a signing it will be if Marc Guehi arrives at St James' Park.
Will Osula has come in to fill the striker position we have been shouting about since the end of last season. It wasn't the big signing we'd hoped for, but given that it looks as though Callum Wilson is staying, it is a good move by the club.
That just leaves the Miguel Almiron upgrade. If Miggy is still refusing to move, he'd better get comfortable on the bench because it looks as though he'll be getting replaced regardless.
We have no idea who by, yet, though, with new names popping up all the time. We've seen the likes of Adrien Rabiot and Federico Chiesa linked for the past two summers, but the one from this year that has kept hanging around is Fiorentina's Nicolas Gonzalez.
But now Gazetta dello Sport believes that Gonzalez could be about to remain in Italy as they believe Atalanta are leading the way for the Argentina international.
Newcastle fans had been split on the idea of Gonzalez in truth, with many thinking he'd be a superb signing and others being pretty unconvinced.
As far as we're concerned, we trust the judgment of the staff who are out there working hard and collating all the data, we're sure they know what they're doing.
We don't have a front-runner in mind for who should come in and take over from Miggy, we just hope that whoever it is can use both feet and can do more than just cut in from the right and curl a shot to the far post. That's mint when it works, but it's safe to say that most defences have cottoned on to it by now.
I bet whoever does come in doesn't smile as much as Miggy though. That we will miss.
