Newcastle United could be about to launch a huge gamble by pursuing a player who already had one go and cracking the Premier League with Liverpool.

As far as disastrous loan moves go, you'd be hard-pressed to find one higher up on the list than that of Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo's stint at Liverpool in 2022/23.

Arthur joined Liverpool on loan from Juventus in 2022, coming to the Premier League with a bit of a reputation for being injury-prone.

It was a risk by Jurgen Klopp and one that did not pay off with the Brazilian managing just 13 minutes of game time for the Reds before unceremoniously returning to Turin.

Arthur had a mostly injury-free season in 2023/24

Last season Arthur was once again sent out on loan by Juventus, this time to fellow Italian side Fiorentina where he faired much better.

The defensive midfielder seems to have put his injury woes behind him as he managed 48 appearances last season even contributing with two goals and four assists.

That seems to have made Premier League sides take note once again as Team Talk believes Newcastle, Wolves and Everton are all lining up a potential move for the 27-year-old.

A loan move has been touted as most likely

A loan move was mooted by Team Talk which would make sense as he does seem like a big risk to take as an out-and-out transfer, but a loan with an option to buy makes sense.

If it's a loan with an obligation to buy then that obligation needs to have a hefty appearance clause attached to it.

That being said, no move for Arthur at all would be our preferred stance, and we're hoping that this is just Team Talk using our name for clicks as we can surely do a lot better.
