Newcastle United hold a long-standing interest in 21-year-old Dutch star on the books at Paris Saint-Germain with the midfielder set to be sent out on loan for the third season in a row.

Xavi Simons is a player that Newcastle have been tracking for a while, but the versatile midfielder who graduated the Barcelona youth academy before making the switch to Paris as a 16-year-old remains on the books at PSG despite seemingly being surplus to requirements.

Simons spent last season out on loan at RB Leipzig where he made 45 appearances, scoring 10 goals and provided 15 assists operating on either wing.

The season before that he was at PSV where he managed an even more impressive 48 outings with 22 goals and 12 assists in his native Holland.

Newcastle: Do whatever it takes to land Xavi Simons ... GO!

Barcelona is likely Simons' preferred destination

Despite his clear talent it seems that PSG don't know what to do with him and Le10Sport are now suggesting that the club will once again look to loan out the winger next season.

This could be good news for Newcastle who are in the market for a versatile forward, however, they will face strong competition from Chelsea and Manchester United in the Premier League.

But it's Barcelona who hold the trump card. His former club are also circling and it's likely that's where Simons will want to go should the opportunity arise.

Simons and PSG want his future sorted before Euro 2024 kicks off

The report does say that Simons' future is not agreed and discussions are set to take place soon as both PSG and Simons want a resolution before Euro 2024 gets underway.

Even if it's just for one season, Newcastle must do everything they can to land Simons. He is a phenomenal talent with an amazing future ahead of him, and should he come to the North East for a spell, we know how much this place can get under a player's skin - he could maybe be convinced to stay and be a part of our project.

We've got all extremities crossed for this one, but at the same time, have very little confidence in it actually happening.
