Newcastle United's injury crisis still shows no sign of easing as we hurtle towards the January transfer window.

The bosses at St James' Park have some work to do in January to patch up this Newcastle squad which has been suffering with long-term injuries for a couple of months now.

Every area of the pitch except for the goalkeeper has been affected and the current roster of injured players has shone a light on the squad's weak spots.

Newcastle have a few youngsters out on loan they could recall

That being said, it now looks like Newcastle will not panic and won't be looking to recall loan players to plug the gaps. At least not Harrison Ashby, according to Wales Online.

Harrison Ashby likely won't be recalled from loan

Harrison Ashby arrived at Newcastle in the last January window from West Ham, and despite some really impressive performances in pre-season was loaned out to Swansea City for this campaign.

Tino Livramento was also brought in by Eddie Howe for £32million and the former Southampton man leapfrogged Ashby in the pecking order making the loan move a wise one.

Things got off to a slow start in the Championship for Ashby, but he's finding his feet in Wales now and is starting to look like the hot prospect we thought he was.

It looks like Newcastle will opt to bring in new faces rather than recall loanees

With Newcastle's injuries, there is a worry from Swansea that Eddie Howe may recall Ashby, but Wales Online said there's currently no indication that will be the case.

That suggests that Newcastle would rather bring in new faces than potentially hamper the development of their young stars. Yankuba Minteh is another youngster out on loan who could be recalled by Newcastle, but again, indications are they'd prefer him to see out his loan spell and pick up vital experience.

We think that's a good move by the club, plus, neither of those players fill the roles which Newcastle are most desperate to fill. Those being centre-back and striker.
