Newcastle United are set to lose out in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, reports suggest.
The Magpies have been heavily linked with the 24-year-old in the past and Toon boss Eddie Howe is understood to be a big admirer of the England international.
Gallagher has had a decent season for struggling Chelsea making 31 appearances, scoring three and assisting six.
The Chelsea star has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge for some time. With his contract expiring at the end of next season now is the perfect time for the Blues to cash in on him.
Outlet Football Insider has revealed that Tottenham are in pole position to sign Gallagher. They have suggested that Spurs are in a more financially healthy position compared to Newcastle.
A move to Tyneside would be a more sensible one for Gallagher with the guarantee of first-team football due to the number of injuries sustained.
He also feels like a player that would mould into Howe's squad seamlessly.
Gallagher seems to be unhappy at Chelsea, the Shields Gazette recently reported that he was no closer to renewing his contract after a breakdown in talks.
The England international has made 12 appearances for the Three Lions and is expected to be on the plane to Germany for Euro 2024.
Gallagher has made 88 first-team appearances for Chelsea in all competitions but had breakout seasons at West Brom and Crystal Palace.
