Tottenham Hotspur are set to beat Newcastle United in the race to sign Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White reports suggest.
Gibbs-White, 24, joined Forest for a club record fee of £42.5m in summer 2022 and won the clubs Player of the Year award for his efforts last season.
The Englishman has had another fine campaign this time out, with 12 goal involvements in the Premier League this season.
However, his time at Forest could be coming to an end as the club struggle with PSR compliance.
Earlier this year, Forest were deducted four points for breaking the Premier League's financial rules. The club will be forced to sell this summer.
Reports elsewhere suggest that the two clubs who have put themselves forward as contenders for Gibbs-White are Newcastle and Spurs.
Football Insider have claimed that Forest will ask for upwards of £50m before considering accepting any offers for the 24-year-old.
The publication also recently stated that Spurs are the front runners to land Gibbs-White at the end of the season.
Thanks to more manoeuvrability with the Premier League's PSR rules, the North London club should be able to fork out the fee that Forest are after.
Newcastle have been crippled by the rules set out by the Premier League and could only make one signing during the January transfer window. A youth player named Alfie Harrison.
It is believed that the club who finishes higher will also get priority to Gibbs-White's signature. Spurs are currently sat in fifth in the Premier League, just three points behind fourth place Aston Villa with a game in hand.
Spurs could have had an easy route into the Champions League through the UEFA Coefficient. Following poor results however, England look to be out of that race.
The top four clubs will qualify for Champions League, fifth will have to settle for Europa League.
Newcastle have battled with Spurs for a signature before, ultimately losing out in the battle for former Leicester attacking midfielder James Maddison.
