While Newcastle United haven't made any first-team additions this summer, they have added another promising youngster to their ranks.

The Magpies beat out competition from Real Madrid and Barcelona to sign 18-year-old winger Antonio Cordero from Segunda Division side Malaga this summer after his contract expired.

Cordero picked the Toon over his country's most prolific side showing that Newcastle do indeed have some pull these days.

The 18-year-old went off to represent Spain in the U19s European Championships reaching the final where they would lose 1-0 to the Netherlands.

Ajax want Antonio Cordero on loan next season

After scoring a goal and putting in some impressive displays during the tournament, some Newcastle fans were saying that he should be given a chance in Eddie Howe's first team next season.

However, the plan has always been to loan out the winger so he can gain first-team experience elsewhere. It's always a tricky process finding the right club for a young player to move to, you want them to go somewhere playing at a decent level, but also a club where they can get plenty of minutes.

The Shields Gazette has now reported that Dutch side Ajax, who will compete in the Champions League with Newcastle next season, are keen to bring Cordero in for next season.

Antonio Cordero moving to Ajax would be a quality loan move

If Ajax can promise Newcastle that he'll get plenty of first-team opportunities that would be an amazing move for Cordero.

Not only would he be playing a decent level of football in Holland, but he could get some Champions League experience too. And Ajax know how to develop young players having one of the best academies in the world.

Newcastle have had mixed results with loan moves to the Eredivisie, with Yankuba Minteh shining so much at Feyenoord that we ended up making a near £30 million profit on him before he'd even kicked a ball for the club, whereas Garang Kuol had another disaster,r having been sent to league strugglers FC Volendam.

We expect that Cordero will more likely have an experience akin to that of Minteh. We just hope that it doesn't lead to him leaving us before we've got a chance to see what he can do in black and white. Stupid PSR!
