Newcastle United desperately need to add a striker to their squad this summer, potentially two if rumours of Callum Wilson's departure come to pass.

There have been many times this season that Newcastle have struggled for firepower, either having no second striker available from the bench to change a game or in some cases, having no recognised striker at all to even start the game.

Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson have been our only two centre-forwards all season and both have had their fair share of injuries. In fact, Callum Wilson has had his share and the share of seven other players.

It's clear that the Magpies can not go into next season with just two recognised strikers in the squad again. It was a risk by Eddie Howe this season and it back fired.

Eddie Howe wants to link up with Dominic Solanke again

Eddie Howe signed Solanke for Bournemouth five years ago

Now Sports Lens have reported that Newcastle are seriously exploring the option of moving for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke after the forward had an exceptional goal-scoring season for The Cherries.

Solanke has scored 21 goals this season going into the final game which puts him behind just Alexander Isak, Cole Palmer and Erling Haaland in the scoring charts.

Eddie Howe obviously knows Solanke well being the one who took the former Liverpool forward to Bournemouth for £19million in January 2019.

Newcastle may still test Bournemouth's resolve

However, the report goes on to suggest that Solanke could stay put at Bournemouth for another season after finally living up to his potential.

We have previously been unconvinced by Solanke when rumours of Newcastle's interest has surfaced previously. It just always seemed like the media linking Eddie Howe with his previous players again, but his form this season has certainly turned our heads.

He's likely to cost a pretty penny which could put Newcastle off, and with Solanke not pushing for a move, Bournemouth are in a strong negotiating position. It could happen, but it may take some time and a fair amount of money.
