Newcastle United are being patient in the transfer market, something that is frustrating fans.

The Toon Army were hoping the club would have done some business in the January window by now with reports in December that a deal for Kalvin Phillips was essentially wrapped up.

Clearly those reports were wide of the mark and Newcastle still appear to be no further forward with any incomings which fans feel are desperately needed.

Andreas Christensen is still on Newcastle's radar

However, FFP is likely to make a deal for the 27-year-old Danish international very difficult in January according to Football Insider who then go on to claim that Eddie Howe will try again in the summer if he can't land his man this month.

While 27 isn't exactly ancient, we thought Newcastle were looking more at younger defenders around a similar age to Sven Botman or even younger.

Do Newcastle know what they want?

Newcastle were apparently keen on Radu Dragusin who has opted to sign for Tottenham, but at 21 would have been an ideal signing for Newcastle to play alongside Botman for years to come.

The plan may be still to sign Christensen and a younger counterpart, but the fact remains that Newcastle desperately need reinforcements in central defence who have some legs about them, our defence is far too slow and that has been exposed too often this season.

We are absolutely not doubting Christensen's ability as we know he has the quality to be successful in the Premier League, but there doesn't seem to be any consistency with the players we are allegedly targetting.
