Newcastle United have been trying to tie down a couple of big players to new contracts following a summer of intense transfer speculation.

Not helped by the board discussing the idea of offloading Anthony Gordon to Liverpool to prevent PSR issues, the rumour mill wouldn't stop churning out transfer stories about Gordon, Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes.

Even though Bruno had signed a new contract with the club and survived the brief window in which his £100 million release clause was active, the stories kept on coming.

Alexander Isak was constantly linked with a move to Arsenal but the prolific Swede is still on the books at Newcastle and is reportedly in talks over a new deal to signal his intent to stay at the club.

Anthony Gordon didn't have the most ideal summer

Also in talks over a new deal has been Anthony Gordon who had a nightmare summer being overlooked by Gareth Southgate at Euro 2024 after going into the tournament feeling 'unstoppable' and Newcastle talking about selling him to his boyhood club, Liverpool.

Once Newcastle dug themselves out of the PSR hole by selling Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson, all talk of Gordon leaving the club ceased - from inside the club at least, the media refused to let it go.

When he returned to action for Newcastle later than most other players, he had a lot of rust to shake off after being left out to dry on the England bench and there were talks that his heart just wasn't at Newcastle United anymore after having his head turned by talk of going to Liverpool.

Anthony Gordon sent a strong message to fans after scoring against

When Gordon got on the scoresheet for Newcastle against Manchester City this season following the talk that he had his heart set elsewhere, he made a point of kissing the badge in celebration and declaring that to be his message to fans that he's going nowhere.

In the background Newcastle and Gordon were thrashing out the details on a new deal and while we'd been told things were close, we're still awaiting official confirmation that the deal has been signed.

Meanwhile, Football Transfers has run an exclusive today claiming that the deal has been signed and that, contrary to recent reports, Gordon is Newcastle's new highest earner.

We've not put a lot of stock in this report given that the latest from the media with actual club access was that Gordon wouldn't earn more than Bruno Guimaraes, but we'll see. Things may have changed in the final negotiations.

Whatever the reality, it's only a matter of time before we get confirmation that Gordon has signed a new deal.
