Newcastle United could be set to say goodbye to one of their most popular players according to a new report
The Daily Mail is reporting that Joelinton could have played his last game for Newcastle due to his injury and the current stand-off with his contract.
The Brazilian has just 18 months left to run on his contract and is demanding a huge pay increase which would see him become the club's highest earner - something the club are not willing to do.
With Joelinton set to undergo surgery later this month which will keep him out for the remainder of the season, there's a very real possibility that Joelinton will be sold this summer if the contract issue can't be resolved.
The fact that Joelinton would be demanding more money than his Brazilian counterpart, Bruno Guimaraes seems a bit strange.
There's no doubt at all that Joelinton is one of our most important players, and yes, to Newcastle fans he's a cult hero, but with all due respect to J7 he's not Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak.
That being said, he deserves a new contract and a hefty pay bump as a reflection of his massive improvement under Eddie Howe, but there has to be a middle ground.
Also, as much as we love Joelinton, and we DO love Joelinton, we'd not get our money back on him in the summer after spending £40million on him in 2019. Especially with just a year left on his contract.
Overall though, we're just hoping that this is just The Mail trying to sell papers because we cannot bear the thought of losing Joelinton right now.
