Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have their sights set on Under 21 European Championship winner but his club just upped their asking price.

It looks as though Tottenham and Newcastle are to go toe-to-toe this summer over Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White.

Gibbs-White has been outstanding for Forest this season despite his side struggling at the foot of the table for most of the campaign.

Now, after being hit with a points deduction for breaching Financial Fair Play, Forest are faced with the reality that they're going to have to sell players this summer which has Newcastle and Spurs poised and ready.

Tottenham lead the way over Newcastle for Gibbs-White

Morgan Gibbs-White was part of the England U21s that won the Euros in the summer and formed a solid partnership in attack with Newcastle's Anthony Gordon, and it seems like Eddie Howe is hoping to link the pair up at club level.

Despite Forest's financial woes, they aren't willing to let 'special' Gibbs-White leave on the cheap.

It has been known for a while that Tottenham and Newcastle both want the 24-year-old, and it was thought that £50million would be enough to seal the deal, but now Football Insider have claimed that won't quite cut it.

Nottingham Forest have slapped another £10m on MGW's asking price

Journalist Pete O'Rourke has told Football Insider that there will be 'massive' interest in Gibbs-White and as such will now demand £60million with Tottenham apparently leading the way ahead of Newcastle in the race.

Gibbs-White is seen as Nottingham Forest's most sellable asset and the player himself will be hoping for a move to a more high-profile club in order to try and emulate Anthony Gordon in getting into Gareth Southgate's senior England squad - or indeed whoever is in charge after the Euros.

MGW would be an amazing signing for the Magpies and could add an extra level of creativity to our midfield. Seeing him link up with Anthony Gordon again would be awesome too, and hopefully, that could be the deciding factor in him choosing us over Tottenham, but £60million is a large chunk of change. It remains to be seen if Newcastle will be willing to spend that much on any one player this summer.
