Newcastle United are still eyeing up a move for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale this summer as the Englishman searches for consistent first-team football.

Ramsdale has been completely frozen out of Arsenal's lineup since the arrival of David Raya last summer despite the Gunners boss Mikel Arteta saying they will both receive game time.

The 25-year-old has only made six Premier League appearances this season with just two of those coming after September.

Ramsdale has always been regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the league and is eager to get the game time he deserves.

Eddie Howe knows Ramsdale well

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe signed Ramsdale from Sheffield United while he was in charge at Bournemouth. He made 37 appearances for Howe during the 2019/20 season before going back to the Blades.

DailyMail reporter Craig Hope said that there have been some early discussions about Newcastle signing Ramsdale.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Hope said: "They’re looking at goalkeepers. Aaron Ramsdale is a player Eddie Howe knows well. I think preliminary talks, conversations, nothing formal have taken place in the background, but I don’t think that’s a priority heading into the summer. But if things fell in a certain way elsewhere, is that something they would look at? Absolutely yes.”

Where does this leave Nick Pope?

If Ramsdale came in, you must think that he would only do so if it was guaranteed he would be the first-choice goalkeeper.

Nick Pope spent an extended period on the sidelines following a shoulder injury in November but recently made his return to the squad in Newcastle's 4-1 win at Burnley last Saturday.

I'm unsure if Pope would want to drop to the bench at this point in his career especially with the form he was in prior to his injury.
