Newcastle United are getting really good at spotting emerging talent and now have another future star in their sights.
A report from Football Insider has suggested that Newcastle are ready with a formal approach for Blackburn Rovers youngster Rory Finneran.
The 15-year-old is on the verge of a first-team breakthrough already having been on the bench for Blackburn's recent win over Bristol City.
The defensive midfielder is already a Republic of Ireland U17 international too so clearly has some potential.
While Newcastle are in dire need of a defensive midfielder for the first team, it's also good to see that the club are thinking ahead to ensure that we're not left hanging in this department again years down the line.
There's no mention of a fee for Finneran who turns 16 at the end of February - he's a leap-year kid so he actually gets to celebrate his fourth birthday this year.
Newcastle's scouts have been keeping an eye on Finneran and have also been linked with Adam Wharton and Hayden Carter from Blackburn too.
It's all well and good looking at these youngsters but right now it's first-team players we need and while it's only the first day of the transfer window, there are already fans tapping their fingers on the desk waiting for some positive news.
Surely it'll not be long before we hear something. Although we can safely say all those "Kalvin Phillips Done Deal" stories from ITKs were a load of swollocks.
