Newcastle United have reportedly joined West Ham United in the race to sign Union Saint-Gilloise striker Mohamed Amoura.

The Algerian has had a fine season and has been regarded as "unstoppable" thanks to his 23 goals and seven assists in all competitions.

His form has caught the eye of several teams including Lyon and Marseille and now Newcastle according to French outlet L'Equipe.

West Ham remain in the driver's seat to get the deal done having already attempted to sign him in the January transfer window.

Amoura to be the 'successor' for Wilson?

It is assumed that Newcastle will be in the market for a new striker in the summer transfer window with an exit for Callum Wilson looking likely.

The Magpies see Amoura as a natural successor to Wilson, who would be brought in to work as a backup option for record signing Alexander Isak.

It is believed that USG's asking price for Amoura will be £17million which Newcastle and West Ham should both be able to comfortably afford.

Lyon and Marseille may struggle to accept those demands.

Amoura has experience against Premier League opposition

Some eagle-eyed fans may already be aware of Amoura because of his form in the Europa League.

The 23-year-old scored twice in six games in Europe this season including a strike in USG's 2-1 win against Liverpool.

Amoura also scored 17 goals in Belgium's Juplier Pro League this season, the second-highest of any player in the league.
