As we come to the end of the third day of the transfer window being open, Newcastle United still have no incoming deals on the horizon.

It's not as if we need them though. We only have 12 players unavailable and terrible form, why rush?

Football Transfers are reporting now that Newcastle are looking to pick off Ben Godfrey from troubled Everton and he could cost as little as £9million.

Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan of Ben Godfrey

Godfrey's versatility and low asking price are said to be what is attracting Newcastle.

Ben Godfrey has played just one full Premier League game this season

The 25-year-old defender can play at right-back as well as across the centre of defence, and that's certainly an area Newcastle need to improve.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was a big admirer of Godfrey from his time as Everton boss calling him a 'really good' player when he was assessing whether to make the move to bring him to Everton from Norwich, which he eventually did for £20million.

A deal for Godfrey could be one to watch

Godfrey would be another one of those signings like Dan Burn. He's not going to light a fire under the supporters and have them crowding the streets outside the Gallowgate to welcome his arrival, but he would be a very strong, dependable addition to the squad.

The 25-year-old has found himself relegated to the bench under Sean Dyche at Everton as the gaffer instead opts to go with his former Burnley associate James Tarkowski. In fact, Godfrey has played a full 90 minutes in one of his two Premier League outings this season, the other was a one-minute cameo.

With that in mind it probably won't take much to convince Godfrey to move and at just £9million it's a risk clearly worth taking by Newcastle. This could be one to watch.
