Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah is likely to leave Stamford Bridge in January with Newcastle United among the interested parties.

Newcastle United have been linked with an interest with Trevoh Chalobah before but now 90mins claims that the 24-year-old defender will be looking for a move away from Stamford Bridge in January.

Chalobah hasn't played yet this season for Chelsea after picking up an injury in pre-season, but with the wealth of talent at Mauricio Pochettino's disposal in that position, Chalobah knows his chances are going to be limited when he does return from injury.

That's why 90mins claims that Chalobah had a meeting with Poch where he outlined his desire to move on in January.

Bayern Munich are said to be highly interested with former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel looking to be reunited with the player he clearly likes as he's given him more Premier League minutes than any of the 1500 Chelsea managers that have come and gone in Chalobah's time there.

Nottingham Forest were also very keen, with them and Bayern making an approach already, but Newcastle have also been long-term admirers and Eddie Howe could now smell blood in the water and opt to move in January to strengthen his defence.

Chelsea will be looking for a permanent sale rather than a loan which would make sense given their over-crowded squad, but with Newcastle apparently exhausting their budget in the summer, that could be off-putting for the Magpies.

More importantly, if Chalobah doesn't recover from his thigh injury in time for the winter transfer window, then he's likely to be going nowhere anyway.

For me I'd wait until the summer to see how he gets on for the rest of this season. If we miss out on him in January then so be it, but we need someone who is fit and ready to go, not someone we'll have to nurse for the remainder of the season.

Chalobah is a good player, he's represented England at every level bar senior, so he fits that Eddie Howe mould of a player with good stats but still plenty to work with. I just think with him not having kicked a ball all season, and unlikely to even if he returns from injury before January, he's not going to be much use until the summer.
