It probably won't come as much of a shock to anyone that Newcastle United will be looking for a new left-back in the summer transfer window.

Dan Burn has performed admirably at left-back despite being brought in as a central defender. Matt Targett who had his loan move made permanent after a decent start to life at Newcastle has rarely been since due to injury and the fact that Burn has made that left-back position his own.

However, this season, Dan Burn's lack of pace has been exposed time and time again and a civil war has broken out between fans, those who blindly support Burn and others who feel the lad can do nothing right.

Left-back is a definite problem area for Newcastle right now

Tino Livramento has done well in that position when called upon but his preferred role is right-back and he will now be getting his chance to prove that with Kieran Trippier expected to miss the next two games.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is on Newcastle's wish list

We think Matt Targett's time at Newcastle will come to an end this summer, but regardless of whether he stays or goes Newcastle appear to be looking at a new left-back with Football Transfers reporting that Newcastle and Bayern Munich are looking to raid Arsenal.

Newcastle were heavily linked with Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney last summer, but it now looks as though it's the man who ousted Tierney from his position at Arsenal that Newcastle are looking at - Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Arsenal will want almost £40million for Zinchenko

It's believed that Arsenal will ask €45milllion (£38million) for 27-year-old Zinchenko which might be a bit much for Newcastle this summer with so many players needed to flesh out the squad. It of course all comes down to FFP.

The Ukrainian missed the first game of the season with a calf muscle tear and that injury has come back to haunt him a couple of times and he is currently out of action with calf problems. However, he has managed 21 Premier League appearances this season providing two assists and picking up a goal of his own.

If this calf issue isn't going to be one that reoccurs often then Zinchenko would be a brilliant signing for Newcastle and should shore up that left-back position that has been causing us so much grief lately.
