Newcastle United could now face the rest of the season without first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Nick Pope dislocated his shoulder in the 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Saturday night and reports coming out today have suggested that the former Burnley stopper could miss the rest of the season after requiring surgery.

That means Martin Dubravka will reclaim his place as Newcastle's number one, but that has not stopped reports surfacing that Newcastle could look to bring in cover with the Daily Mail suggesting a replacement this morning.

Newcastle are looking at David de Gea as a short-term option

The Mail claims that Newcastle will look to ousted Manchester United 'keeper David De Gea who is still without a club following his tumultuous exit from the Red Devils.

David De Gea made 545 appearances for Manchester United keeping 190 clean sheets for the club before Andre Onana was brought in by Erik ten Hag.

De Gea, like Onana took a while to get settled in the Premier League but did eventually become one of the best goalies in the league, and at 33, he's still got plenty of years left in him at the highest level.

There are other areas that need addressing before the GK

Even if Newcastle just look to bring him in for the remainder of the season, there's no doubt he could do a job for us.

However, Martin Dubravka has never let us down when called upon and is still a top 'keeper, and Loris Karius has clearly done something to impress Eddie Howe after he was given a contract extension in the summer.

It's therefore more likely that Eddie Howe will focus his attention elsewhere in the transfer market as there are other, more pressing areas to attend to first.
