There's now potentially more bad news coming Newcastle United's way out of Switzerland.

After linking up with the Swiss national team, it now looks like Fabian Schar will miss at least the next game for his country as the national coach has told Swiss outfit Blick that Schar has a muscular problem.

Switzerland take on Isreal tonight with a win guaranteeing them a place in the Euro 2024 finals in Germany.

Schar was likely going to miss out tonight regardless

Blick claims that Schar would not have featured in the starting eleven anyway with Nico Elvedi likely to have been preferred to the Newcastle centre-back.

Fabian Schar has been a rock for Newcastle lately

The good news is that his exclusion from the squad sounds more preventative than reactive with Swiss coach Murat Yakin saying that Schar was complaining of muscle fatigue after such a heavy run of fixtures for Newcastle.

Schar is still training but with a personal trainer in the hotel rather than being put through the same regime as the squad who will be involved this evening.

Schar is likely to feature for Switzerland during the international break

Switzerland have three games lined up during this break so there's still a good chance Schar will see some action for his country.

We just hope that he comes through this trip unscathed, especially if he's already feeling like he's on the edge.

Losing Fabian Schar while we also have Sven Botman out would be absolutely devastating.
