Report: Liverpool concede that deal for Newcastle star would be 'difficult to do' and won't pursue interest

Newcastle United have made it very clear that they won't be selling any of their big stars this summer but that's not stopped reports from surfacing linking our big names with moves away.

Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak are constant sources of speculation for lazy journalists with nothing else better to write about.

Newcastle are easy targets for such stories thanks to the Financial Fair Play restrictions holding back the club's ability to spend its vast wealth. Instead, it's easier to write about how we will have to sell the huge stars we're building our team around in order to bring in other big stars ... do you see the flaw in the logic there?

Another big name who has been linked with an unlikely move away recently is Player of the Year Anthony Gordon.

Liverpool won't even attempt to sign Gordon

Anthony Gordon was crowned Newcastle's Player of the Year

The £45million signing from Everton has been a revelation this season and has hardly put a foot wrong throughout the entire campaign. He's been recognised by Gareth Southgate and now finds himself in the preliminary England squad ahead of Euro 2024.

He's also now the subject of interest form Premier League rivals Liverpool, the club which Gordon grew up supporting.

However, 90mins has now reported that incoming Reds manager Arne Slot will not be making a move for Gordon.

Liverpool feel Gordon would be too expensive

The feeling is that Liverpool know that Gordon would command too hefty a price tag and are now looking elsewhere.

The idea that Newcastle would sell Gordon after the season he's just had is beyond laughable, even if it is his boyhood club coming in for him. Gordon has stated how much he loves it at the Toon and we love him. He's another player we'd be smacking a £100m+ price tag on.

Instead, Liverpool are looking at Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville who has also popped up on Newcastle's radar, but whether there's any true intention to make a move by Newcastle remains to be seen.
