The only thing worse than Newcastle United's defensive display against Chelsea on Monday night was seeing Anthony Gordon leaving the field injured.
Anthony Gordon has been massive for us this season and is probably edging out Fabian Schar for the Player of the Season.
However, yesterday there were rumours abound that Anthony Gordon's knee injury could keep him out for six to seven weeks which would have meant he'd miss a huge chunk of the rest of the season which would have been devastating for Newcastle.
It certainly didn't look good on Monday night when the physio tested Gordon's knee on the pitch and it was clear to everyone watching that something wasn't right.
Eddie Howe even said in his post-match interview with NUFC TV that it didn't look good, so adding all that together certainly backed up the six weeks rumour, but fortunately, The Chronicle has other news.
It is now believed that Gordon's injury is not as bad as first feared and it may just be a short lay-off for the pacey forward.
In fact, the Chronicle's report hints that there's a chance he could be involved in Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final clash with Manchester City and that he's still in with a chance of making Gareth Southgate's next England squad which is due to be announced on Thursday.
If selected, Gordon could find himself going up against teammate Bruno Guimaraes as the Three Lions are set to face Brazil and Belgium.
We'd be amazed if Gordon is selected, however, given that he's been in superb form all season. Apparently, that's not the criteria for being selected by Gareth Southgate, it's all about whether you do now or have ever played for the "bix six" or whether you were good for England once, maybe ten years ago.
