If there's one name that became synonymous with Newcastle United without ever playing for them it's Bas Dost.
The Magpies were linked to the former Wolfsburg striker in almost every transfer window for years but he never arrived on Tyneside.
It became a running joke that still persists to this day. Shortly after the PIF-led takeover was announced fans were quick to post on social media that we might finally sign Bas Dost.
Today though, we are hoping for a different kind of good news surrounding the 34-year-old as the NEC Nijmegen forward collapsed on the pitch this afternoon causing the Eredivisie clash with AZ Alkmaar to be abandoned as reported by The Express.
A makeshift tent was erected around the player to shield him and the medical staff from view while they worked on him.
It's a horrible sight we've seen too many times lately.
Thankfully, AZ Alkmaar posted an update on X confirming that Bas Dost is now conscious.
"Bas Dost is conscious and is taken off the field. The match has been stopped."
We wish the striker a speedy recovery as we're sure do all Newcastle United fans.
He never played for us, but he's still a bit of a Magpies cult hero in his own strange way.
