World Cup winner Toni Kroos has entered the final stages of his Real Madrid contract and could be looking to leave the Spanish giants.

Toni Kroos turns 34 in January when Newcastle United could potentially make their move for the five-time Champions League winner.

The former Germany international has slipped down the pecking order at Real Madrid, and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, he will be looking to assess his options.

Kroos is being offered to the Premier League 'elite'

The Daily Star believes that the midfielder is already being offered to the top clubs in the Premier League, with the Magpies likely to be the most keen to add numbers after losing Sandro Tonali for the remainder of the season due to suspension.

He may be getting on a bit now, but Kroos is still a quality player and his Champions League experience could be invaluable - if we're still in the competition come January.

It would be interesting to see if Madrid would let him go on loan for the remainder of his contract, and as well as that, whether Newcastle would be keen to keep him beyond that loan period with him becoming a free agent in the summer.

Kroos' age could be an issue but it really shouldn't be

At 34, he'd not exactly fit the mould of an Eddie Howe transfer. That being someone whom he can develop into a future star, but having someone of Kroos' calibre in the side would be a huge statement.

As we've said before, 30 isn't the career-ending signal it used to be, and many top players go on to play into their late thirties at the highest level now, so we could still get a couple of seasons out of Kroos before he hangs up his boots/moves to Saudi Arabia.

We say go for it. It'll be a relatively low-cost punt on a world-class player.
