West Ham are set to offer Lucas Paqueta a new £200k-a-week deal to try and stave off interest from Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Newcastle have long been linked with an interest in Lucas Paqueta predating his move to West Ham. It all came about after signing Bruno Guimaraes.

Fans picked up on their friendship and how well they play together and the narrative was launched that Newcastle were going to return to Lyon to bring in Paqueta to play alongside Bruno.

The rumours persisted for a long time despite the club never once acknowledging any interest in Paqueta. Eventually the Brazilian did move to the Premier League to join David Moyes' West Ham.

Things got off to a slow start for the 26-year-old and it looked like he was struggling to adapt to life in the Premier League.

However, he eventually found his feet and now Paqueta is looking outstanding drawing praise from Moyes who called him an 'incredibly talented player', as well as drawing the attention of Newcastle and Manchester City.

According to TeamTalk that is making the Hammers nervous, especially as Paqueta has an £85million release clause in his current deal that they'd be looking to remove.

I feel it's unlikely that Newcastle would fork out anywhere near £85million for Paqueta, nor would Man City I dare bet, so the release clause isn't so much of an issue. But when rumours keep circulating that Paqueta is unhappy and wants to leave West Ham, they have to be seen to do something to quash those stories and a new deal would do just that.
