Report claims several clubs now circling £20m Newcastle United flop as form at loan club impresses
Newcastle United could be looking at redemption for arguably their worst transfer move under the new regime.
It seems a tad unfair to label Odysseas Vlachodimos a flop, as the Greek goalkeeper hasn't even been given a chance at Newcastle since his £20 million move from Nottingham Forest last summer.
The Greece international was signed as part of the deal that took Elliot Anderson to Forest as both clubs desperately scrambled to avoid points deductions for breaching PSR rules.
Newcastle really got screwed twice in that deal, losing one of their most promising players and bringing in another that Eddie Howe clearly didn't want.
Odysseas Vlachodimos is driving up his value at Sevilla
Due to the high fee Newcastle paid for Vlachodimos, it made it very difficult to sell him, as it would massively impact the PSR calculations if they sold him for a huge loss.
Thankfully, the Spanish side Sevilla have taken the 31-year-old on loan this season, where he's been in inspired form, and as a result, Sport Witness is now claiming that several, as yet unnamed, clubs are keeping an eye on his situation. The lack of club names is, of course, a red flag, but if Vlachodimos' form continues, we're sure he will attract some interest.
Sevilla didn't insert an obligation to buy in their loan agreement, so when Vlachodimos' loan is up, he'll be back on the market, and if his form continues throughout the season, Newcastle could find themselves presiding over a bidding war and ultimately recouping a big chunk of their £20 million outlay.

Was Odysseas Vlachodimos unfairly treated at Newcastle?
One thing that has always baffled us about Vlachodimos at Newcastle is that he actually looks like a solid goalkeeper. Even though he wasn't playing regularly, Greece still kept him as their number one, and when he played against England, he showed that he's no slouch.
He was highly thought of before his move to Nottingham Forest, and now he's showing at Sevilla that he is actually a good goalkeeper. We just don't understand why he was never given a fair crack at the Toon.
It's certainly better for everyone that he moves on, and if he can keep playing well to drive up his value, then it could be a win-win come the end of the season.
