Newcastle United are expected to be very busy in this summer's transfer market despite the bombshell announcement that sporting director, Paul Mitchell, is set to leave the club after less than a year in charge.

The announcement, which seemed to come out of nowhere on Tuesday, had Newcastle fans wondering how this news would affect Newcastle's summer with so much riding on recruitment.

It has been repeated in many reports that it's not expected that Mitchell's departure will derail Newcastle's plans (which is a pretty damning statement if you think about it), and that Eddie Howe will take charge of recruitment until a successor is found.

These claims have been echoed in The Telegraph, which is reporting that everything is good to go in terms of Newcastle's summer plans.

Newcastle are ready to start making deals

The Telegraph quotes their source as saying that all the prep is done, they just need to make the deals, essentially.

“Everything is in place, all the work that has been done on players has been finished and now we have to push the button and get those deals done. We know who we want.”

We're sure that Paul Mitchell had plenty of input into compiling these lists, but unless Newcastle act quickly in this Club World Cup transfer window in June, he'll not receive much credit for any of the deals we do in the summer following his departure, which will leave his name on the scrapheap along with that of Dan Ashworth.

Newcastle are eyeing quick deals for two Premier League stars

The report heavily suggests that Newcastle's priority is to get the deals done for Premier League duo Marc Guehi and Bryan Mbeumo from Crystal Palace and Brentford, respectively.

Eddie Howe is a huge admirer of Guehi, and it was pretty much Guehi or bust last summer, so it's no surprise he's top of the list again for the Newcastle boss.

Bryan Mbeumo has also been touted as being Newcastle's 'priority' transfer since January. If Newcastle can get deals done for both of these players and Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, it would certainly be a red-hot start to the transfer window.
