Besiktas seem very determined to acquire Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles this month according to reports from Turkey.
A report on Turkiye Gazetesi now claims that Besiktas VP Hüseyin Yücel is making a trip on a private jet to come to Newcastle to convince the club to sell them Jamaal Lascelles, and even expect him to return with Lascelles on board.
That's confidence for you.
It's not the most unlikely of scenarios right now as Newcastle do seem to be keen on letting players go, even without backup options coming in to replace them.
We are starting to sound like a broken record here, but we have no problem with players being sold, but our squad is threadbare already, so letting players leave without replacing them is absolute insanity.
Central defence is one position that we need to strengthen our numbers, and letting Lascelles leave exposes us to a massive problem if Sven Botman or Fabian Schar were to pick up a knock.
We have Dan Burn or Paul Dummett who could fill in, but neither really inspire confidence in the way Schar and Botman do.
Lascelles is out of contract at the end of the season, although Eddie Howe would like him to extend his stay, however if we can get money for him this month, the positives of that may outweigh the negatives of being short on numbers.
It's definitely a hard decision the club have to make and only time will tell how this one goes.
