Eddie Howe and a large portion of his squad jetted off to Germany this morning as Newcastle United take advantage of their Adidas partnership by using their state-of-the-art facilities for a week.

While Eddie Howe puts his player through their paces, new sporting director Paul Mitchell will be hard at work too.

The former Monaco recruiter has had a week or so to get his feet under the table and get accustomed to his new role, and now the hard work begins.

A report in inews has claimed that Mitchell will be taking advantage of being in Germany to hold recruitment meetings regarding some top targets.

Malick Thiaw is still a top target for Newcastle

Newcastle have a 'substantial budget' to get their priority targets

The paper claims that Mitchell will have a 'substantial budget' to use to bring in a right-sided forward, a striker and a central defender at the very least this summer.

Who those players end up being is still anyone's guess with new names added to the rumour mill practically every day.

The board met over the course of three days at Alnwick Castle over the weekend, so everyone should be now be crystal clear just what is available to spend and what needs to be done.

Newcastle's transfer push starts now

The report also emphasises that efforts continue to ensure that Newcastle can retain the services of Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon who still remain targets for several high-profile clubs.

With the three-day summit over and Paul Mitchell in mainland Europe, we expect to see things start to move faster from now on in terms of recruitment.

Fingers crossed, Malick Thiaw is home in Germany visiting relatives and just happens to wander by Adidas World of Sports complex, and if he happens to engage in a nice chat with Paul Mitchell, that would be okay too.
