Newcastle United continue to work on identifying right-wing targets for upcoming transfer windows after failing to improve the priority position this summer.

There have been plenty of names linked with the Magpies recently from the likes of Federico Chiesa who ultimately joined Liverpool, the out-of-contract Adrien Rabiot and weirdly, Manchester United's infuriating £86 million flop Antony.

Anthony Elanga still remains the media's favourite after a failed deadline day approach, but other names keep appearing.

Today it's the turn of Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo who has caught the eye of Newcastle as well as a few other top clubs.

Newcastle have been listed as a club interested in Bryan Mbeumo

Bryan Mbeumo is being tracked by some big Premier League sides

Mbeumo stepped up for Brentford in the absence of Ivan Toney when the England striker served his ban, and now Toney has opted to move to Saudi Arabia, Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa will once again have to step up.

Brentford are keen to make sure Mbeumo stays at Brentford but the 25-year-old, according to HITC, is not willing to sign a contract extension amid interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Newcastle are all keen on his services.

A lot of Newcastle fans threw Mbeumo's name out there over the summer as someone the club should have been looking at and we wholeheartedly agree.

Our final league position could be key to landing Mbeumo

Given who our potential competition would be should we try to sign the 'really exciting' winger, it's clear that he is very highly rated.

That competition makes things tricky for Newcastle, and a lot will depend on where we finish this campaign as to how much pulling power we have against the other big hitters. We'd imagine we'd be at the forefront of being able to offer regular football, but the big swing will likely come from who can offer Champions League football next season.

Newcastle are aiming for the top four this season and despite a poor transfer window, it's not beyond the realms of possibility. We are undefeated this season after all, and we've not exactly been playing our best either. We can absolutely achieve that goal.
