'Pushing': Journalist gives big injury update as Newcastle United seek answers to last night's two point dropped
Newcastle United fans and players were furious last night as the Magpies twice let a lead slip against a Tottenham Hotspur side that scored the only two chances they had on target.
It was the manner in which Newcastle dropped the points that was really a sickener for fans.
Newcastle dominated for most of the game, but as has often been the case this season, they just weren't clinical enough in front of goal.
Eddie Howe's men had 19 shots, only seven of which were on target, and only two went in, and one of those was a penalty. This is a huge problem for Newcastle and has been all season.
Yoane Wissa is hoping to be part of the squad on Saturday
Thankfully, we're edging ever closer to a potential solution with Yoane Wissa racing to get fit to make a difference, and Craig Hope has now given a bit of hope via X that the £55 million summer signing could be involved on Saturday.
"Yoane Wissa is pushing to make the bench this weekend… it would be a timely boost. Last night was an example of where they just needed something different in attack."
It's not going to be an immediate solution, that's for sure. Especially as his being on the bench doesn't necessarily mean he's ready to play more than just a few minutes, but it's a step in the right direction.
We need Yoane Wissa's 'frightening' sharpness to convert our chances into goals
Keith Downie recently spoke about how Wissa has been described as 'frightening' by a Newcastle player who has been watching him in training this week.
It sounds as if he's going to be sharp when he returns, even if he doesn't yet have the match fitness required to put in a 90-minute shift.
Hopefully, that 'frightening' finishing translates to goals for the Magpies because at the minute, the chances we are creating simply aren't good enough. I'm not a big fan of xG as a metric, but ours must be absolute toilet this season.
