Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is set for a second loan move in as many seasons.

The 28-year-old has had a torrid time over the last couple of years with his move to the Citizens from Leeds United immensely close to being deemed a failure.

The former England international spent last season on loan at West Ham but failed to make an impact in his eight appearances for the Hammers.

Now, Phillips is set to join newly promoted Premier League side Ipswich in what is being considered as a "statement signing" for the Tractor Boys.

Kalvin Phillips rejected Newcastle United in January

The Magpies had concrete interest in Phillips during the January transfer window as they looked to temporarily fill the void left by Sandro Tonali's suspension.

Ultimately, Phillips decided to reject the move to Tyneside opting for a loan to West Ham.

Phillips featured in the Hammers dramatic 4-3 defeat to Newcastle in March last year. He gave away a penalty with West Ham up 3-1 in the second half before being taken off.

After the game, fans branded him as "useless" to which he responded by giving them the middle finger.

A bullet dodged for Newcastle United?

Phillips' loan spell didn't get much better.

Following a 5-2 defeat to Crystal Palace media reports said that Hammers coaches were "shocked" at Phillips' poor performances during games and his attitude during training.

They also went on to say that it seemed as if Phillips "had lost interest in playing Premier League football".

He was snubbed by Gareth Southgate for this summer's European Championships and seems a long way off returning to the England squad.
