The longest-running Newcastle United transfer since Bas Dost could finally be coming to an end.

With just a few days until the transfer window closes Newcastle may finally be set to land their priority target Marc Guehi following another round of talks with Crystal Palace.

Newcastle have had several bids rejected this summer as Palace have stood firm on Guehi's asking price while Newcastle have tried to shave a couple of million off of it.

Now Sami Mokbel of The Daily Mail has claimed that the end to the saga is in sight.

Newcastle could wrap up the Guehi deal very soon

News broke today that Crystal Palace are the frontrunners for Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez which was soon followed by this update from Mokbel.

"Marc Guehi's future set to be resolved in the next 48 hours following more talks between Crystal Palace and Newcastle. Significant chance now the next formal offer is accepted."

The two clubs have dragged it on until practically the last minute but now Palace seemingly have a direct replacement lined up they look set to let Guehi leave.

Time is running out to find a new winger

If all goes ahead, and quickly, that leaves Newcastle some time to try and find a right-winger, although time and options are dwindling.

After Noni Madueke's hat trick heroics for Chelsea on Sunday they're likely to be less inclined to let him leave now, although news came out on Saturday night that Chelsea are looking at a loan move for Jadon Sancho which, after bringing in Pedro Neto recently, could push Madueke even further down the list despite his excellent form.

To be honest, we don't see why Newcastle don't try their luck with Jadon Sancho. Just because he bombed at Manchester United doesn't mean he can't cut it in the Premier League. He'll have his confidence back after a decent season back at Dortmund last year so why not? Even if it's just a loan for this season. It could save us a fortune and solve a big problem.
