Newcastle United don't have the best record when it comes to loaning out its young stars, but it's not always their fault when things don't go right.

By now, we're all pretty certain that Shola Ameobi is absolutely stealing a living at the club as Loans Manager. That was pretty evident after the Garang Kuol debacle at Hearts and was then nailed on when he sent the Australian to FC Volendam a year later.

This season, Ameobi sent summer signing Antonio Cordero to the Belgian Pro League with KVC Westerlo despite him being tracked by the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

However, Trevan Sanusi's struggles on loan this season can't be attributed to Shola, as the former Birmingham winger, who impressed Newcastle fans last summer in pre-season, has been injured since he booked his loan move to Lorient in France.

Trevan Sanusi made a dream debut for Lorient

Now, after four months of waiting, Sanusi has had his first taste of action for the French club, coming off the bench at the weekend.

He wasted no time in showing what he could do, as Dom Scurr reports that the tricky winger bagged a goal and an assist in Lorient's 7-0 cup victory.

Newcastle fans have high hopes for Sanusi after his pre-season showings ahead of last season, although when he was given his first-team debut in the FA Cup game against Bromley, we did see that he's still got a way to go.

It's a good start, but let's not get carried away

We won't get too carried away by this weekend's exploits either, given that it was just a Coupe de France win over AS Gosier of Guadeloupe.

Still, it will no doubt be a huge boost of confidence for Sanusi after a troubled start to life in France.

Let's hope he can continue that form for the rest of the season and pick up some valuable experience.
