Newcastle United are still on the lookout for a new right-winger after their initial £45m bid for Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga was rejected on Tuesday.

It was a lowball offer by the Magpies, with Forest valuing Elanga at around £60 million, and while the club weighs up another bid, they do have alternatives in mind.

As Sky Sports reported, Newcastle also have their eyes on Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, Borussia Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi and still hold an interest in PSV's Johan Bakayoko.

At one point last year, it had looked as though Newcastle were readying a move for Bakayoko to replace Miguel Almiron, but while Miggy did leave, no replacement came in.

Johan Bakayoko has seen his value slashed by PSV

PSV have halved their asking price for Johan Bakayoko

It was expected at the time that Johan Bakayoko would cost around £35 million, but after a steep drop off for PSV in the second half of the season, his value has been slashed.

Bakayoko was dropped from the starting lineup and was rarely given any minutes on the pitch, to the point where he requested to be available for the B team in order to get more minutes, according to The Chronicle.

Now, it's believed that PSV would accept bids of around £17 million this summer to move him on.

Eddie Howe is the man to get Johan Bakayoko firing again

It doesn't sound like an appealing move when a club is willing to drop the player from the team and then half his asking price.

However, Johan Bakayoko is still only 22, and that puts him in prime Eddie Howe territory. The problem is, of course, that Eddie Howe's magic touch is brilliant, but it's not an overnight thing, and Newcastle don't really have the time to build up a player to play down their right; they need one to come in and hit the ground running.

That being said, though, £17 million has to sound tempting, right? We could just continue with Jacob Murphy while Bakayoko adjusts. Or we could even get him and another top target, because let's face it, Murphy isn't getting any younger and will need to be replaced at some point.
