Newcastle United fans are starved for information on the new stadium or, indeed, St James' Park revamp, because things are moving so slowly we don't even know what the plan is.

The club hinted that we'd find out some details 'early 2025', which got pushed back to 'near the end of the season'. We're now so far beyond the end of the season that today is Transfer Deadline Day! Albeit a short transfer window that was instated for those clubs taking part in the Club World Cup, with the main transfer window to open on the 16th.

This morning, we have had the tiniest of updates from one journalist and a tease from another. So what's going on?

Firstly, Joel Bland has issued an update which suggests that the new development at Leazes Park has had a capacity upgrade, should that be the route they decide to take, expanding on his tweet with an article in NUFCBlog.

Newcastle have reportedly added an extra 5000 to the proposed capacity of a new stadium

Originally expected to be a 65,000 capacity stadium if the new ground was to be built on Leazes Park, after seeing the 300,000 turn out for the Carabao Cup celebration, the PIF have now upped their plan to a 70,000 capacity stadium.

Some fans will argue that it's still not enough, and we get where they're coming from, but the board would rather have a fully capacity ground with demand for tickets, than a stadium that could find itself with empty seats when things aren't going to well or the game has little interest to people.

Demand looks good at the end of the day, and removing that demand could be damaging to the 'brand'. Yuck.

Luke Edwards expects an update to arrive soon

Meanwhile, The Telegraph's Luke Edwards has reposted his piece from after the Carabao Cup celebrations that he believed would have given PIF pause for thought on the capacity, and hinted that a solid update is coming by the end of the month.

Unfortunately, Edwards has a pretty strong track record of jumping the gun on this particular topic, so we're not getting too carried away.

However, it really has been too long without anything solid from the club, so we surely must be due some sort of update. I just hope it's not a case of fan consultation at this point - seriously, just get on with it, announce what you're going to do, and whichever side of the argument people currently fall, they will, in time, get used to the decision. Guaranteed.
