'Personal terms will not be an issue': BBC Sport claims £40m striker is open to Newcastle United move
Newcastle United's striker search continues as the Magpies have missed out on several top targets already this summer.
Having seen the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Joao Pedro and Liam Delap opt for other clubs this summer, Newcastle are still on the hunt for a striker who can play alongside and instead of Alexander Isak as the Magpies head into a difficult season.
Brentford's Yoane Wissa has emerged as a target for Eddie Howe after a stunning campaign with the Bees which saw him net 19 Premier League goals.
The 28-year-old is also being tracked by Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest but Brentford are hoping to agree new terms with the DR Congo international having already lost Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United.
Yoane Wissa has told Brentford he wants to leave
It has been reported that Brentford were only prepared to let one of their attacking stars go this summer, and now that Bryan Mbeumo has joined Manchester United, it was expected that Wissa would stay. However, BBC Sport claims that Wissa has other ideas.
They have reported that Brentford want to open talks with Wissa over a new deal, but the player has made it clear he wants to move this summer, and with Spurs, Forest and Newcastle all able to offer European football, and all are thought to be willing to pay £40 million, Brentford may have to dip into the market themselves.
The BBC also claims that agreeing personal terms will not be an issue, especially for Tottenham and Newcastle, giving the Magpies a real shot at ending their striker saga, if, and this is a huge if, they move quickly.
Yoane Wissa's signing isn't going to inspire any street parties, but he'd be a solid signing
Yoane Wissa may not be the most exciting signing after chasing the three aforementioned forwards, but he showed last season that he knows where the net is.
If Newcastle could pick him up for £40 million, that would leave plenty left in the budget to finally get a defender and a goalkeeper through the door too, and likely have some left for another midfielder, or to keep in the pocket for January.
Wissa turns 29 at the start of September which puts him way above the age range we've been looking at, but we'd rather a 29-year-old Wissa than 28-year-old Dominic Calvert-Lewin. At least Wissa will be available when needed.
