Newcastle United face a mammoth task of trying to defeat a Liverpool side who currently look unstoppable. The sides meet at Anfield on Wednesday night with an 8:15pm kick-off live on TNT Sports.

We're not expecting any pundits to predict a win for Newcastle in this one, especially after the second-half performance on Sunday and the fact that Liverpool made such light work of Manchester City later that same day.

However, the Magpies do have a habit of turning up in big games, and even though Liverpool have Newcastle's number in the Premier League, especially at Anfield where we haven't won for over 30 years, we do manage to run them close more often than not.

One day, it's going to happen for Newcastle at Anfield, and hopefully, that will open the floodgates for a new era of dominance. Whether that starts tomorrow, though, is another story.

Liverpool v Newcastle. I hate the nerves!

Paul Merson isn't giving Newcastle much of a chance against Liverpool

Paul Merson certainly doesn't believe tomorrow will be our day as he made his prediction for Sportskeeda. We've trimmed a lot of his rant as he just went off on a tangent about Liverpool without acknowledging the game, so if you want to read the whole thing you'll have to follow the link.

"Newcastle started poorly the other day before being rampant for 12 minutes and securing a big lead. After all that, they almost allowed Forest to get back into that game in a crazy 4-3 result. If Newcastle allow this game to become a similar, 'I have a shot, you have a shot' affair, I think Liverpool will batter them!

"I really believe Liverpool don't get enough credit. They are a phenomenal team and made City look average on Sunday. This team is so entertaining and will be deserved winners this season. If they win this game and Arsenal lose like I predicted, they can easily start resting players in the league to focus on the Champions League. That could make a massive difference to their aspirations in Europe.

"Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Newcastle United"

That's a canny hefty defeat Merson has predicted

We get it, Merse, Liverpool are mint, no need to beat us over the head with it.

We've got all our fingers crossed for a Mo Salah off day and an Alexander Isak super show.

Stranger things have happened.
