Paul Merson feels it will not be an easy game on Sunday as he predicts the winner between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United
After a cup double-header, Newcastle United are back in Premier League action on Sunday, and after four games on the bounce at home, the Magpies are on the road this weekend as they travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves are starting to hit form at the wrong time for Newcastle. They may not be picking up as many points as they'd like as they battle to get off the bottom of the table, but their performances are improving and points are sure to follow.
Given Newcastle's terrible record away from home, this is definitely a concern for the Magpies ahead of this weekend's fixture.
Add in all the injuries and fatigue from such a hectic week, and we've every right to be worried.
Paul Merson's comments don't fill us with confidence
Paul Merson's comments in his prediction for Sportskeeda aren't filling us with confidence either, but at least the former Arsenal man has us winning.
"Wolves have turned a corner, haven't they? They are looking good at the moment. If Jordan Pickford does not make that incredible save at the end, they would have beaten Everton in the last game.
"I know Wolves are still a lot of points away from safety, but they are showing signs of being competitive. The good thing for them here is that Newcastle haven't been very consistent.
"You just don't know what you're going to get from Newcastle. They are entertaining in attack but very open at the back as well. Wolves need to stay in the game and at some point, they will be presented with a chance.
"I expect Newcastle to win, but I don't think it's an easy game for them. Maybe four weeks ago, this game had three points written all over it but not anymore.
"Prediction: Wolves 1-2 Newcastle United"
How have our lads coped with the rigours of the last three fixtures?
Our main concern is the tiredness of the players. This past week has been hell. We had a game that went to extra time sandwiched in between two really intense fixtures that also went to the 100-minute mark, all with such late drama.
Newcastle have struggled with their mentality all season, and we dread to think what kind of toll this has all taken on them, mentally.
On the positive side, a solid performance and an impressive win away from home could be just the tonic the side needs right now.
