Newcastle United fans were over the moon on Saturday when it was confirmed that fan-favourite Bruno Guimaraes had signed a contract extension keeping him at the club until 2028.

It was always a case of when, not if Bruno would sign his new deal with just a few kinks needed to be worked out since news broke he was close to a new contract.

While the deal does include a release clause believed to be in the region of £100 million, the terms of said clause are still unknown, meaning the clause might only kick in for a week in the summer of 2027 and only applies to Real Madrid.

Obviously, that's unlikely, but the fact is we don't know yet just how/when that clause comes into play.

One man who was seemingly pleased to see Guimaraes sign up for more was former Newcastle boss Alan Pardew who said on TalkSPORT this morning:

“I see Guimaraes has signed a new five year deal. Wow. I have to say, he has really impressed me. I have not seen a lot of him, but this year I have and I have to say I really think he is an outstanding player."

After seeing Pardew praising Bruno I can't help but wonder how the Brazilian would have faired playing under Pardew at left-back given that everyone had a spell in that position under him.

Since the deal was agreed between Bruno and the Club two weeks ago, Guimaraes' game had lifted considerably, almost like the talks had been playing on his mind and affecting his performance.

Since returning from the last international break Bruno has returned to the player we all fell in love with when he burst onto the scene in 2022.
