Callum Wilson's Newcastle United contract expired on Monday, and now the £20 million striker appears to be in limbo.
We expected that Tuesday would have brought some confirmation as to what the next steps would be for the 33-year-old, but we're still not actually sure what is happening.
Yesterday, it was noted that the Premier League's official side has Wilson listed as 'released', but the last thing we heard out of the club was that Wilson had been offered a pay-as-you-play deal to stay at the club, so there is still a chance that Wilson could remain on Tyneside.
If he has left, however, it's likely not to be the end of his Premier League career, with a couple of top-flight clubs keen to take a punt on the striker.
Leeds United have often been credited as having an interest in Callum Wilson as they look to add a bit of firepower ahead of their return to the Premier League, but they now aren't the only newly promoted side to have Wilson in their sights.
As Newcastle and Burnley continue to thrash things out in a bid to come to an agreement on James Trafford, The Telegraph are reporting that the Clarets are also keen on Wilson.
Like Leeds, Burnley are hunting for a proven goalscorer and have the likes of Callum Wilson, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jamie Vardy in their sights as potential free signings.
It definitely feels like Wilson has called time on his Newcastle career, but until we get official confirmation from the club, fans will continue to be confused.
Some fans are concerned that should Wilson agrees to the incentivised offer that the club will not push on to sign another centre-forward, which we all know we desperately need, even if Wilson stays.
Until the club makes a breakthrough in the transfer market, these kinds of thoughts are going to continue to come to the fore, and negativity will start to spread, which, after the best season in recent memory, would be a massive mistake by the club. Get a move on, lads.
