Ross Wilson will be a very busy man once he finally gets fully settled in as Newcastle United's sporting director.

We've already identified that there are plenty of contracts for the new man to sort through, both expiring and ones where players could do with being handed new terms to keep them at St James' Park.

On top of that, there'll be planning for upcoming transfer windows as well as every other aspect of whatever it is a sporting director at Newcastle United does.

There's one area of the club's operations that is in desperate need of an overhaul, and that is player loans.

Someone needs to train Shola on how to do his job properly

Shola Ameobi's record at finding good clubs for loan players is terrible

Newcastle have invested a lot of time, effort and money to bring in the most promising young stars to develop for the first-team and part of that development involves going out on loan to gain valuable first-team experience.

However, other than Yankuba Minteh's loan to Feyenoord, which was too successful if anything, Newcastle have had horrible luck when it comes to loaning out players.

Shola Ameobi is the club's loans manager, and his success rate is abysmal; something needs to be done. We're not saying put Wor Shola out of a job, but someone needs to help him out.

Antonio Cordero is at risk of becoming a failed experiment

Newcastle beat Barcelona and Real Madrid to the signing of Spanish wonderkid Antonio Cordero, who arrived on a sea of hype only to be sent off to Belgium to a relegation fodder side where he's played fewer than 90 minutes so far this season.

How is that supposed to prepare him for the Premier League? Surely, if Westerlo was his only option for a loan move, the smart move would have been to keep him on Tyneside and use him in the reserves. The Premier League 2 is probably a better standard than the arse-end of the Belgian league.

Hopefully, this is an area that Ross Wilson has been aware of, and he has plans in place because it's a waste of time signing all this top young talent if all we're going to do is ruin their careers.
