'On track': Eddie Howe gives injury update on two Newcastle United players after Champions League win last night
A much happier-looking Eddie Howe spoke to the media in Brussels last night following Newcastle United's superb 4-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise.
It was just a few days ago when Eddie Howe looked to have the weight of the world on his shoulders after seeing his side fall to a very late defeat against Arsenal, but that weight looked to have been lifted last night.
Newcastle looked to be in control against USG from start to finish last night and got their reward for their efforts with a 4-0 win, which jumped them up to 11th spot on the Champions League table.
However, despite the win and the feel-good factor, journalists were keen to get updates on a couple of key injuries, namely Tino Livramento and Yoane Wissa.
Eddie Howe confirmed the news on Tino Livramento
It had been revealed before the game yesterday that the injury sustained by Livramento on Sunday is set to keep him out for six to eight weeks, with Eddie Howe telling reporters that's a better scenario than they perhaps felt on Sunday.
"From yesterday, Tino, we think will be roughly around six to eight weeks.
"Which is probably positive from where we were after the game, thinking it might be months. So yeah, we're probably looking not this international break, but maybe the next one he could be back. So certainly more positive."
Yoane Wissa is still on track to return after the international break
Howe went on to give an update on summer signing Yoane Wissa, who is yet to feature for his new club after picking up an injury on international duty just days after signing for Newcastle.
"I think we're still on track for where we were, which is after this international break coming up. He hasn't trained on the grass yet, so we haven't seen him as part of any team training. So at the moment that's the schedule, but we'll wait and see."
Thankfully, Nick Woltemade hasn't needed the time we all perhaps thought he would to get up to speed in the Premier League in terms of scoring goals, but having that competition for places can only help spur him on, so when Wissa returns to fitness we might even see Woltemade go up another level.
