On the house: Fans attending St James' Park tonight will be offered free drink as CEO makes demand of supporters
Newcastle United are hoping for one of their famous Champions League atmospheres tonight as the Magpies take on PSV in their last home game of the league phase of the Champions League.
Kick-off tonight is at 8pm, but a plea has been made by CEO David Hopkinson and indeed Wor Flags, for fans to get to the ground a bit earlier to whip up an intimidating atmosphere.
Newcastle United have also confirmed that fans will be able to take advantage of their latest free drinks offer, with everyone in attendance eligible for a free drink if they are in the ground before 7pm tonight.
"Turnstiles will open at 6.00pm, ahead of the 8.00pm kick-off with a complimentary drink token will be offered to those passing through turnstiles from 6.00pm, remaining valid until 7:00pm.
"Tokens can be redeemed for a free bottled soft drink, tea, coffee or draught or bottled beer/cider (subject to location). The offer is available across the concourse, Platinum Club and Bar 1892, with separate arrangements in place for guests attending hospitality suites."
CEO David Hopkinson has issued a rallying cry to supporters
Meanwhile, David Hopkinson has asked fans to generate plenty of noise inside St James' Park.
“Champions League nights at St. James’ Park are about more than football — they’re about energy, belief, and making this place uncomfortable for any opponent who walks out here.
“We need voices raised from the first moment and that shared sense of togetherness that makes our atmosphere so special. We’ve put a few things in place to welcome supporters in early, including a small arrival gesture — now it’s about filling this ground with noise and belief.
“We’ll take care of the welcome. The supporters take care of the noise. This is our home. Let’s make it felt.”
Keep your eyes on the Gallowgate End before kick-off
Wor Flags have something planned in the Gallowgate End, so have asked fans to arrive early to help out with that display.
It sounds like we're going to be in for a good one tonight if everyone inside St James' Park plays their part.
We saw what kind of atmosphere we can generate when PSG were here two years ago, if we can match that again, PSV won't stand a chance tonight.
