Bruno Guimaraes sat alongside Eddie Howe in this morning's Sela Weekender press briefing.
The Brazilian returned to the squad during the week-long trip to Japan, sitting out the first game but captaining the side in the game against Yokohama FM.
Unfortunately, Newcastle were second best that day, but that won't have spoiled the day too much for Captain Bruno.
After Matt Ritchie left the club this summer, there was a place available in the Leadership Group at Newcastle and it now seems as though that position has been filled by Bruno.
Speaking to the press this morning Bruno confirmed his new role and spoke of the honour bestowed upon him (h/t NUFCblog)
“I have always been a leader, It’s a big challenge because English isn’t my first language.
“The leader isn’t just who wears the armband, but the person who fights for the club in many, many ways — for example I missed just one game last season.
“I’ve been captain at Athletico Paranaese, Brazil Youths and at Lyon. The gaffer has given me a big responsibility and I want to deliver something for him and the fans.”
The 26-year-old also addressed the rumours about him leaving which followed the club around since the end of last season.
“I’m very happy, I never said I would like to leave, I always said I would like to put my name in the club’s history.”
Bruno is going nowhere: confirmed (again)!
