Newcastle United could now be faced with a dilemma after Besiktas of Turkey have reportedly made an official offer for a first-team player.

If anything, Newcastle needed to add players to their first-team squad in January not lose them.

Thanks to picking up injury after injury this season it's hard to see how it could make sense to lose anyone who has stepped onto the pitch this season as you never know which position is going to be severely depleted next.

Jamaal Lascelles could be heading to Turkey

However, the editor of SportsDigitale, Yagiz Sabuncuoglu has now said on X that Besiktas have bid for Jamaal Lascelles. They had previously shown interest in the Newcastle skipper.

No price has been revealed, but if Newcastle really are that desperate for headroom for FFP they could seriously be considering the sale, even if it's only something around £5million.

Jamaal Lascelles has had a resurgence this season due to the injury to Sven Botman, but he's still classed as one of the players who will be expected to fall by the wayside as Newcastle continues to grow to break into that top six on a regular basis.

If nobody is coming in then nobody can leave

Right now, we don't feel that letting any players go would be a good idea just because of the state of the squad and Newcastle's methodical (read extremely slow) approach to incoming transfer deals.

If we let Lascelles go this month, would we even get a replacement in before the window closes? Doubtful.

Bottom line - if we're not doing any incoming business in January, we can't afford to do any outgoing either. Unless it's players who aren't currently registered in the squad. Have we mentioned how much January is stressing us out yet?
