In an interesting development this morning it looks like Newcastle United have a court hearing today with regard to a claim against the HMRC.

Right now there are no further details other than Newcastle United have a hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice in London at 10:30am today relating to a matter with the HMRC.

Listed on the Government website, the hearing is set to be presided over by Lord Justice Singh and Mr Justice Garnham.

Isn't it weird that so many people named Justice go on to become legal professionals?

There are no details around as yet to indicate what the case is about

As this entry on the website is all we have to go off right now, we'll get our speculation heads on and surmise that it has something to do with the HMRC raid on St James' Park in 2017 in the ever-eventful Mike Ashley days.

Newcastle and West Ham were raided on the same day by HMRC for unpaid taxes, with Newcastle director Lee Charnley arrested and later released without charge. Computers and files were seized by the officials who dropped the investigation four years later with no further action taken.

No charges were ever brought and now it looks like Newcastle are potentially fighting back.

HMRC dropped their investigation before PIF took over

Given that the raid took place and was dropped while Mike Ashley was still at the helm it now falls to PIF and Amanda Staveley to seek justice for damages caused to the club's reputation - if indeed that's what this case is about.

We all know that Wor Mandy loves a fight so it's highly likely that our 10% owner will be involved.

Like we say though, this is just pure speculation on our part, it might be an entirely unrelated issue, but hopefully we find something out later today after the hearing.

We'd also just like to point out this post on X which had us all rolling this morning:
