That hope didn't last long did it? Newcastle United once again look destined to end today with no new additions to the squad.

After the deal for Marc Guehi officially collapsed Newcastle's attentions seemingly turned towards Nottingham Forest's Swedish winger Anthony Elanga.

Newcastle have held an interest in Elanga all summer, even trying to bring him to the club as part of the deal for Elliot Anderson, instead we ended up with a £20 million goalkeeper we didn't want.

Now Nottingham Forest have rejected a £35 million approach by Newcastle for Elanga.

Elanga move looks unlikely now

Nottingham Forest don't want to sell Anthony Elanga

Sky Sports News claim that the initial £35 million bid was rejected and Forest tried to add an unnamed Newcastle player as part of the deal but Newcastle weren't willing to do an exchange.

Now it remains to be seen if Newcastle can convince Forest to part with Elanga who don't want to sell.

Sky Sports didn't seem to close the door on the deal so Newcastle may well still be trying but that little glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel is fading.

Newcastle have a couple of loan exits on the cards

Meanwhile, midfielder Joe White looks set to join MK Dons on loan according to Mail Sport's text updates.

The move of Harrison Ashby to QPR is still likely to go ahead too.

So we may shift a couple of players out on loan, but as for incomings, that looks highly unlikely right now (6:30pm).
