There are some players who just seem inextricably tied to a club, and even a transfer away can't sever that connection. Elliot Anderson feels that way for Newcastle United, while Sandro Tonali has that same connection with AC Milan.

It was just a couple of days ago that I wrote something about Elliot Anderson and that feeling that he will one day return to Newcastle. When that will be, I have no idea, it may not even be as a player, but his Newcastle story doesn't feel over.

Similarly, the fans of AC Milan have a similar feeling about Sandro Tonali, although they are all sitting waiting for him to turn up at any moment and have been since he arrived at Newcastle.

The Italian has now admitted that he sees himself returning to Milan, but it's not something that's going to happen in the immediate future.

Sandro Tonali's poorer games far outnumber his good games right now

Sandro Tonali admits he still expects to return to AC Milan

Italian media have kept adding fuel to that particular fire ever since Tonali arrived at Newcastle, giving the Milan fans hope, but the Italy international has now told La Repibblica he has no regrets about moving to Newcastle, and no immediate plans to leave.

"Has the English experience enriched you?

“Not just economically. I grew up and discovered a new country, a new football and a new language. I have no regrets. The idea of returning to Milan one day is there, but it’s not the thought when I wake up in the morning.”

Sandro Tonali has been poor lately

Sandro Tonali still owes Newcastle United for his ban and what the club did for him during that time, quite when we'll see that debt as paid depends on what the future holds.

Although, if he keeps misplacing passes and defending like he did last night, we might just let him go back to Milan. While I don't necessarily agree with Rich's harsh assessment of Tonali being the most overrated player Newcastle have ever had (Allan Saint-Maximin, anyone?) I will agree that his poor games far outnumber his good games right now.

It does feel as though Tonali can't take a game by the scruff of the neck. If his teammates aren't performing around him, he will go missing too, and that's a huge problem across our midfield as Bruno Guimaraes is the same lately. We miss Joelinton fighting for everything and keeping the energy up.
