For a while at the start of the summer, it looked like Newcastle United were about to land two defenders on free transfers after their respective contracts expired.

Lloyd Kelly was leaving Bournemouth and Tosin Adarabioyo had decided to move on from Fulham and Newcastle looked to be the likely destination for both players.

While Newcastle did land Lloyd Kelly, Tosin Adarabioyo had a last-minute change of heart and ultimately signed for Chelsea.

Newcastle fans put this down to a simple case of geography. It would be way less hassle moving from Fulham to Chelsea than it would to Newcastle, and so we moved on.

It sounds Tosin Adarabioyo got his clubs mixed up

There was certainly no brain involved

Newcastle still haven't filled the void left by the assumed arrival of Tosin with talks over a move for Malick Thiaw dragging on like the ending to Lord of the Rings.

Now though, Newcastle fans have a bit more clarity on why Tosin opted for Chelsea as he gave an interview with the BBC (via The Chronicle) and was asked why he chose Chelsea over Newcastle, and, well, we are confused to say the least.

"You're better off asking my agent about that.

"Once I knew Chelsea were interested, I was fully focused on that. When it came down to it, to hear the project that's going on here, it's amazing. It’s an amazing project, an amazing club, so for me it was a no-brainer."

Amazing project, Tosin?

Give us a clue here, Tosin, was it your agent or you who made the call?

Also, whoever it is who talks to the potential Chelsea recruits and manages to sell that absolute shambles of a club as an 'amazing project' isn't getting paid enough.

With nine managers in ten years, a bloated squad filled with top stars who have never filled their potential, a manager from the Championship, dodgy deals like selling hotels and the women's team back to itself to avoid PSR ... why would anyone go there?
